One of the most influential figures in Portuguese television, with a career spanning journalism, production, and media leadership. He is currently General Director of TVI and a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

José Eduardo Moniz began his career at Diário Popular, where he worked from 1972 to 1977. He then held editorial leadership positions at A Nação in 1980 and served as Director of the magazine Telestar in 1985. He also contributed to several other publications. Between 1984 and 1986, he coordinated the morning news at Rádio Renascença and was responsible for the radio program Sopa de Pedra.

In television, he held increasingly senior roles at RTP from 1977 to 1994. He was Head of the Current Affairs Department, Chief Editor of the Telejornal, Deputy Director and later Coordinating Director of Information at RTP. From 1984 to 1985, he was part of the team responsible for the conception and installation of RTP's Broadcasting Center. Between 1990 and 1994, he oversaw the programming of Channels 1 and 2, including sports news. He was also a presenter, interviewer, and moderator of several formats, including De Caras. In 1992, he was awarded the Bordalo Prize in the Television category.

In 1994, he founded the independent production company MMM – Produtores Independentes, which produced several successful television programs. In 1998, he became General Director of TVI, a position he held until 2009 and resumed in 2022. During this period, he also joined the PRISA Group (Strategic Audiovisual Development Committee) and served as Vice President of Ongoing Media. In 2013, he founded JEM – Media Consultancy, Lda.

He is a consultant, speaker, and conference author in Portugal and abroad. He has also served as a lecturer and Director of the Department of Communication Sciences at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa since 2012. He was Vice President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica and a consultant for TV Bandeirantes (Brazil).
